Oscar Benito

Assistant General Counsel at GlaxoSmithKline

Oscar Benito has current global responsibilities for GSK corporate brands and the brands for the vaccines business at GSK. He was previously responsible for the consumer healthcare brands at GSK. Mr Benito joined GSK in 2003 and before that he was a trademark lawyer at Jacobacci & Partners (Madrid).

Mr Benito is interested in applying automation platforms and AI tools to simplify high-volume activities and, within GSK, he implemented a chatbot for internal clients to get instant answers to simple but repetitive trademark queries. Mr Benito is looking for opportunities to adapt tech solutions, such as robotic process automation, to legal trademark work.

He is a Chartered Institute of Trademark Attorney’s (CITMA’s) council member and leads CITMA’s WIPO liaison group with the goal to improve the Madrid system. As a highlight, the CITMA’s WIPO liaison group was a key stakeholder for the 2017 UK position paper with proposals to improve the Madrid System, most of which WIPO have now included in their current roadmap. Mr Benito also contributes to the WIPO chapter of the EU’s trademark handbook (Sweet & Maxwell) and to Simmons & Simmons's 'Access for Justice' – a corporate responsibility programme to help individuals whose personal disability allowance has been rejected.
