Deputy General Counsel at Rotary International

Jomarie B Fredericks is deputy general counsel and chief IP counsel at Rotary International, the worldwide not-for-profit association of 35,000 Rotary clubs and The Rotary Foundation, headquartered in Evanston, Illinois. Ms Fredericks’s practice includes trademark, international trademark, copyright, licensing, libel, privacy and general corporate law. Her team is responsible for protecting, policing and licensing Rotary's intellectual property globally, and was the winner of the 2018 WTR Industry Awards Not-for-Profit Organisation Team of the Year and made the shortlist of Top 5 teams in both 2019 and 2017.

Ms Fredericks was previously in private practice with law firms in Chicago, practising in commercial and First Amendment litigation, with an emphasis on libel defence and media law, trademark and copyright, including the daily pre-publication review of several national tabloid publications. Before practising law, Ms Fredericks worked in the broadcast arena, both on and off air, including as a producer with WGN Radio in Chicago.

Ms Fredericks is the 2019 treasurer of the INTA board of directors, chair of INTA’s finance committee and a member of its executive committee. She was co-chair of INTA’s 2017 Annual Meeting in Barcelona, was appointed to the 2015 INTA Governance Review Presidential Task Force and is a past chair of INTA’s in-house practitioners’ committee. She is a member of the IP Law Advisory Board of the John Marshall Law School and a board member of the IP Law Association of Chicago’s Educational Foundation.

Ms Fredericks received her bachelor’s in speech communications and master’s in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received the John Fischetti Memorial Journalism Scholarship and the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Award. She received her JD from Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she was a recipient of the Joseph M Bailey Scholarship and a member of the Bar and Gavel Honourary Society, and an LLM in IP law from the Centre for IP Law at The John Marshall Law School.
