David Lossignol

Head of Trademarks, Domain Names and Copyrights at Novartis Pharma AG

David Lossignol is head of trademarks, domain names and copyrights at Novartis Pharma AG in Basel, Switzerland, where he leads a team of experienced trademark professionals handling all trademark, domain name and copyright matters for Novartis’s pharmaceutical business worldwide. Mr Lossignol rejoined Novartis in January 2019 after having been at Sandoz from November 2015. Previously, he had been a senior trademark attorney at Novartis in Basel, Switzerland, where he was responsible for worldwide trademark, design and domain name portfolios and various pan-European litigation-related matters.

Before joining Novartis as a trademark attorney in January 2010, Mr Lossignol had been head of trademarks and domain names from 2006 at Virbac SA, a company in the animal health sector in Carros, France. At Virbac, Mr Lossignol was in charge of the group’s worldwide trademark, design and domain name strategy. He joined Virbac as an intern in 1999 before becoming trademark and domain name counsel in 2001. In 2002 he also acted as legal counsel for the company, in charge of drafting and negotiating agreements.

Mr Lossignol obtained law degrees at Nice Sophia-Antipolis University, France – where he has also lectured on IP law – and diplomas at Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom and the Centre for International IP Studies, Strasbourg, France. He subsequently passed the French qualification exam in intellectual property in the trademark and design fields.

Mr Lossignol is the 2019 President of INTA and chairs the INTA Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.

He speaks French, English and Italian and has business knowledge of Spanish.
