Senior Manager, Intellectual Property at New Balance Athletics Inc

Angela Shi is the senior manager for intellectual property at New Balance Athletics Inc. She is implementing an anti-counterfeiting strategy in Greater China with the objective of preventing the exportation, importation, distribution and sale of counterfeit products of the company’s brands. She has demonstrated solid expertise and ability in enforcing any IP rights infringement directly or through private investigators and law firms. Ms Shi served as an IP counsel in Philips’s IP and standards department from 2003 to 2014.

While Ms Shi’s practice has a special focus on trademarks, she is also proficient in copyright matters and other IP fields and associated litigation. She leads her team to win rare victories before the Chinese courts, including a ruling which ordered three domestic shoemakers to pay more than Rmb10 million ($1.5 million) in damages for infringing New Balance’s signature slanting ‘N’ logo, which is the highest damages ever awarded to a foreign company in a trademark dispute in China.

Ms Shi has a master’s in civil and commercial law from Renmin University and a bachelor’s in IP law from Shanghai University. She served as vice chair of the Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC) Communications Committee in 2012 and vice chair and chair of best practice of the QBPC Enforcement Committee between 2013 and 2015.
