Verena von Bomhard has been involved with EU trademarks from the very beginning, having founded her former firm’s office in Alicante in early 1996. In 2015 she and Giles Corbally set up the boutique firm BomhardIP.
Ms von Bomhard has extensive experience in all matters relating to the prosecution and enforcement of EU trademarks and designs and has handled over 80 proceedings before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. She is well versed in multi-jurisdictional trademark clearance and portfolio management and frequently advises on complex IP conflicts in the European Union, on effective dispute settlement strategies, and on the protection and enforcement of non-traditional marks.
Ms von Bomhard holds a PhD from the University of Munich. She is co-editor of two leading commentaries (in German and English) on EU trademark law, has authored and co-authored numerous books and articles on EU trademarks and designs, and is a frequent speaker on these topics. She teaches EU trademark law at the IP master programme of the Max Planck Institute and at the Magister Lucentinus – the IP master programme of the University of Alicante.
A very active member of INTA, Ms von Bomhard has been on the board of directors, has co-chaired an annual meeting, has been chair of the Programmes Committee, OHIM Subcommittee (twice) and the Trademark Office Practices Committee, and currently serves on the Trademark Reporter Committee. She received the 2014 Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law from INTA. She is also a member of the Expert Committee for Trademark and Competition Law of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, as well as a member of the European Communities Trademark Association, the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property and the Pharmaceutical Trademarks Group.
