Tom Sharman

Partner at Reddie & Grose LLP

Tom Sharman is a UK and European trademark, patent and designs attorney and handles all aspects of trademark, patent and registered design portfolios.

After graduating with a master’s in mechanical and automotive engineering, he joined Reddie & Grose in 2005 and was made a partner in 2015.

Described as a “fantastic communicator”, his approach is a flexible, client-first, creative and straight-talking one. His client base is expanding rapidly, with many new clients being referred to him by his existing clients and contacts.

His main focus is supporting UK-based businesses; he specialises in helping them to expand their cross-IP portfolios in the United Kingdom and globally in line with their expansion, and to identify and navigate third-party issues. He supports start-ups with funding, small and medium-sized enterprises and global brand owners in the automotive, green-tech, fashion, financial services, telecoms, recruitment, consumer products and charity sectors, among others. He develops cost-effective strategies that get the best from the IP framework and their IP budgets.

Mr Sharman has a strong track record in contentious matters, exerting pressure where needed and always looking for pragmatic, commercially relevant and cost-effective settlements.

He also advises on 3D trademark matters, tackling online infringements and UK company name disputes.

Mr Sharman’s recent publications include “Brexit & IP: Everything you ever wanted to know about Brexit” and “Guide to Invalidating a Registered Community Design”.
