Thomas Gaarder-Olsen is an attorney at law and senior partner at Onsagers AS. His work ranges from developing IP strategies and establishing IP rights, to maintaining and enforcing these rights through dispute resolution and litigation. Mr Gaarder-Olsen has vast experience helping rights owners fight counterfeiters; he enjoys a close relationship with the Norwegian Customs.
Mr Gaarder-Olsen’s clients value his effective and solution-oriented work and clear-cut advice. His clients include some of the largest Norwegian companies in the fields of consumer products, food retailing and pharmaceuticals. He thus handles one of Norway’s largest trademark portfolios for Orkla ASA. He also works with international companies seeking to establish and enforce their IP rights in Norway, including Harley-Davidson, Vitra, Armani and Schweppes. Recently, Mr Gaarder-Olsen successfully litigated a colour trademark dispute on behalf of pharmaceutical company Sandoz in two instances.
Mr Gaarder-Olsen has particular expertise helping rights owners fight counterfeiters. In this respect, he was a board member of the Norwegian Anti Counterfeit Group and enjoys a close relationship with the Norwegian Customs. He is passionate about IP rights, and works hard to raise awareness of their importance among clients and others. He is a regular at international trademark conferences, such as those organised by INTA and the Pharmaceutical Trademarks Group.
