Thomas Gaarder-Olsen has more than 10 years’ experience as an IP lawyer, previously from the IP department in a major full-service law firm, and as a senior partner at Onsagers. He graduated from the University of Oslo in 2005, specialising in trademark, patent and copyright law. Mr Gaarder-Olsen’s other areas of expertise include marketing law, unfair competition and design law.

Mr Gaarder-Olsen’s clients include nationally and internationally leading corporations from a variety of sectors, including consumer goods, food and beverages, fashion and design, life science and pharmaceuticals. Noteworthy clients are Orkla, with one of Norway’s largest trademark portfolios, Sandoz, Vitra and Harley-Davidson.

His work ranges from developing IP strategy, trademark clearance and establishing IP rights to maintaining and enforcing these rights through dispute resolution and litigation. He has litigation experience before lower courts as well as the appeal courts. Mr Gaarder-Olsen has particular experience helping rights holders to fight counterfeiters. In this respect, he has acted as a board member of the Norwegian Anti-counterfeit Group and cooperates closely with Customs.

Mr Gaarder-Olsen is passionate about trademarks – he enjoys being able to raise awareness of the subject and regularly makes speeches and contributes to national media.
