Sean Garrison is a partner with Bacal & Garrison Law Group with over 25 years of experience representing clients in trademark and other IP matters. Mr Garrison represents clients in a variety of industries, including financial services, education and restaurants and pubs. He manages national and international portfolios for numerous clients and regularly represents them in enforcing and defending their rights.
Mr Garrison practises regularly before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), the administrative law court of the US Patent and Trademark Office. Utilising the TTAB’s accelerated case resolution (ACR) procedures, Mr Garrison prevailed for his clients in two of the earliest ACR decisions issued by the TTAB.
Mr Garrison is well respected by his peers, having been listed by the Best Lawyers in America® since 2007. He has been named a ‘Lawyer of the Year’ on five different occasions and is listed in the 2019 edition in six different categories of IP law, including trademark law, copyright law, IP litigation and technology law.
Mr Garrison currently serves as vice chair of the Trademark Law Committee for the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, having previously served as chair of the Trademark Litigation Committee (2016-2018). He is a past chair of the e-commerce and technology section of the Arizona State Bar.
Mr Garrison co-authored the US chapter in the WTR Yearbook 2016/2017: A Global Guide for Practitioners, as well as “The preclusive effect of Trademark Trial and Appeal Board decisions”, published by World Trademark Review in 2016. He also co-authored the US trademark registration chapter of the International Trademark Association's (INTA's) Trademark Administration and the Arizona chapter of INTA’s U.S. State Trademark and Unfair Competition Law.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, Mr Garrison earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his law degree from Columbia University.
