Rosalyn Newsome has been in the profession for over 20 years and is experienced in handling all aspects of trademark work. She routinely conducts global brand clearance work and creates global filing strategies to complement business drivers, timeframes and budget considerations.
She is experienced in enforcement work, whether relating to trademarks, domain names or company names, having led successful actions before the UK Intellectual Property Office, the EUIPO, Nominet and the Company Name Tribunal. She has been described as a “wolf in lamb's clothing” and is a calm yet tenacious adviser.
Ms Newsome’s business background ensures that she takes a holistic approach and considers all options available not only when developing the best IP strategy, but also when assessing the commercial realities of the marketplace. She has a track record of being pro-active and creative in her approach to problem solving.
She has extensive experience working for a wide range of clients, from smaller, start-up businesses to managing large portfolios of international clients and ensuring the overall group IP strategy is aligned.. She has a particular interest in the cosmetics industry, and heads up the firm’s cosmetics sector group having secured several prestigious clients in this sector.
Ms Newsome joined the trademark department of Barker Brettell in 1999 after completing a degree in business and commerce with German, and has been partner since 2012. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Trademark Attorneys and an EUIPO representative.
In addition, she is an active contributor to CITMA review and is always up to speed with the latest trademark law developments.
