Olivier Vrins is an IP partner at ALTIUS and deals mainly with trademark, design, copyright and patent litigation. Described as a “brilliant lawyer who always gives very comprehensive and deep advice” (Chambers and Partners) and as “always thinking outside of the box in terms of strategy” (Legal 500), Mr Vrins has gained expertise in a broad range of other IP rights-related topics. He also specialises in the field of designations of origin and geographical indications, as well as in the protection of the personality rights of public figures, including sportsmen.
Mr Vrins is legal adviser, past chair of the anti-counterfeiting committee and member of the geographical indications committee of the European Communities Trademark Association. He is also a member of the Belgian Council for Intellectual Property, an advisory body to the Belgian government (Federal Public Service Economy), composed of experts and stakeholder representatives in the field of intellectual property; INTA; MARQUES; the International Wine Law Association; the Benelux Trademark and Design Association; and the editorial board of the BMM Bulletin. He is a regular speaker at seminars on IP rights enforcement and other IP rights-related subjects and has been retained by WIPO as an international expert in workshops on IP enforcement.
Mr Vrins is the author of the book Regulation (EU) No 608/2013 of 12 June 2013 Concerning Customs Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights and Repealing Regulation 1383/2003 (Kluwer: International Encyclopedia of Laws, 2017) and the co-editor of the book Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights through Border measures: Law and Practice in the EU (Oxford University Press, second edition, 2012). He has also contributed to, among others, the book EU Copyright Law: A Commentary (Edward Elgar Publishing, second edition, 2021, I Stamatoudi and P Torremans (editors)).
Mr Vrins speaks fluent French, English and Dutch.
