IP Attorney at TIERNEY IP
Niall Tierney is an IP lawyer with more than 25 years’ private practice and in-house experience gained in Ireland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Mr Tierney qualified as an Irish barrister at law in July 1993 and was registered as an Irish trademark attorney in 1994. He spent five years at a leading IP law practice in Dublin. He moved to London in 1998, where worked in senior roles for leading ‘magic and silver circle’ law firms. During his time in the United Kingdom, he qualified as an English solicitor and subsequently a UK-registered trademark attorney. During his time in Switzerland, Mr Tierney was an in-house trademark adviser to one of the world’s largest broadcasting and media companies.
Mr Tierney has extensive multi-jurisdictional legal experience in the clearance, protection, enforcement and exploitation of soft IP rights, such as brands, trademarks, logos and designs. His other areas of expertise include domain name enforcement and disputes, trade secrets law, image rights and passing off. He also provides advice on the incorporation and management of IP holding companies located in Ireland.
Mr Tierney has acted for and advised clients across a spectrum of sectors, including fast-moving consumer goods, fashion, luxury goods, information technology, broadcasting and entertainment and pharmaceuticals. He has written widely and spoken frequently on a variety of IP topics.
During his time in London, Mr Tierney was an IP mentor to visiting students from the College of Law of the esteemed US Syracuse University. He also lectured on a freelance basis for BPP School of Law in design law and practice and confidential information and trade secrets.
