Marta Tandori Cheng

Partner at Riches McKenzie & Herbert LLP

A registered trademark agent and partner, Marta Tandori Cheng has been with Riches, McKenzie & Herbert LLP since 1987. She has extensive experience in all aspects of trademarks, including the clearance of trademarks and the filing and prosecution of trademark applications, as well as in trademark oppositions and non-use cancellation proceedings. Her practice serves Canadian clients, both nationally and internationally, as well as trademark agents and attorneys globally on behalf of a wide range of clients.

Ms Tandori Cheng understands the importance of evaluating a client’s trademark needs, especially in light of recent amendments to the Canadian Trademarks Act and Trademarks Regulations. With Canada joining the Madrid Protocol, as well as officially adopting the Nice classification system, this has brought about many changes to Canadian practice and some challenges that are unique to Canada, which Ms Tandori Cheng is able to assist clients in navigating.

Ms Tandori Cheng is also a member of INTA and has served on its Trademark Administrators Committee, which develops educational programmes and resources specifically for trademark administrators. Working on the committee has provided Ms Tandori Cheng with a greater insight into and understanding of the difficulties faced by trademark administrators in the day-to-day management of their, or their clients’, trademark portfolios, putting her in a unique position to offer her expertise in this challenging area.
