Kenneth Muhangi specialises in intellectual property, technology, media and telecommunications. He holds an LLM (international commercial law) from the University of South Wales, an LLB (hons) from the Uganda Christian University and a diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre.
Mr Muhangi is a renowned, award-winning author and trainer in the fields of intellectual property and technology. He has conducted specialised trainings in areas of information and communication technology (ICT) such as block chain technology, digital banking and data protection. Mr Muhangi is a visiting lecturer of IP and cyber law at the Uganda Christian University and has lectured on cyber law at the Makerere University Law School. He heads the ICT cluster and is a member the IP cluster of the Uganda Law Society. Mr Muhangi is also a member of The Africa List, an exclusive community of next generation CEOs building Africa’s top 100 companies, supported by the CDC Group.
Mr Muhangi has also advised the government of Uganda on the integration of ICT into the adjudication processes for courts of judicature and advises the Ministry of ICT on innovation and ICT policy development. He also represents Uganda at the 4IR Portfolio Communities of the Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution of the World Economic Forum. The 4IR Portfolio Communities include artificial intelligence, blockchain, the Internet of Things, digital trade, data policy and drones.
In 2018 Mr Muhangi featured in Uganda’s Top 40 under 40, a survey conducted by Uganda’s most popular newspaper New vision. Mr Muhangi has also been recognised as a leading IP lawyer by WTR 1000 and was a finalist ‘Partner of the year’ at the 2019 Africa legal Awards. At the same awards, KTA was awarded the coveted Africa’s Intellectual Property Team of the Year in a closely contested category that featured Africa’s top IP firms. KTA was nominated in other categories, including Specialist Law Firm of the Year and Boutique Law Firm of the Year.
Mr Muhangi is also engaged by the World Bank to support the preparation of the African Drone Forum’s regulatory track under WEF guidance.
