Jon O Webster is a partner in the IP practice group at Harter Secrest & Emery, a WTR 1000 2020 Bronze band firm in New York State, where he counsels clients on the full spectrum of international brand portfolio management, from trademark strategies to enhancing brand positioning and initiatives.
Mr Webster has significant experience, including serving as former in-house chief trademark counsel for Bausch & Lomb, where he was the architect of the company’s global trademark portfolio and strategy. At Bausch & Lomb he had worldwide responsibility for all facets of the company’s entire global trademark and copyright portfolio and related commercial transactions. He also managed trademark, false advertising, unfair competition and trade dress litigation on a worldwide basis.
Mr Webster is proactive and tactical in his approach to brand creation and protection. He counsels clients on all elements of brand portfolio management, including trademark strategies to enhance brand positioning and initiatives; the clearance, adoption, registration, protection, enforcement, use and licensing of brands; and the development, implementation, and enforcement of trademark policies and practices, including global anti-counterfeiting management. He has extensive experience in both US and foreign trademark office practice (including registration, opposition, cancellation and related processes), along with packaging and labelling review of goods and services, advertising and promotion to ensure regulatory compliance.
Mr Webster is a member of INTA, the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He presents trademark and brand strategy topics to members of INTA, the Practical Law Institute and other organisations.
A graduate of SUNY Buffalo Law School and the University of Chicago, Mr Webster is AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and he has been listed in the WTR 1000 in 2015 and 2016.
