Joana de Mattos Siqueira
Joana de Mattos Siqueira became a partner at Montaury Pimenta, Machado & Vieira de Mello in 2012. She has been practising IP law since 1998, when she joined the firm as a clerk. For the past 10 years, she has been leading the firm’s foreign department, focusing on trademark law.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira has extensive experience and concentrates her practice on trademark matters to support clients that range from fast-growth, emerging companies to established brands in a variety of industries. She provides comprehensive trademark counselling in Brazil, assisting clients in building and defending their trademark portfolios.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira’s practice includes:
- domestic trademark clearance;
- registration and opposition proceedings;
- reporting and filing responses to trademark office actions;
- recordal of corporate changes, such as change of names and assignments;
- trademark strategy; and
- trademark portfolio management.
She actively participates in several IP associations, mostly in Latin America, North America and Europe; she is president of the Trademark Committee of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), a member of INTA’s Brands for a Better Society Committee and chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association.
In addition, Ms de Mattos Siqueira has always been very active in pro bono work and social responsibility issues; for over eight years she was vice chair of ASIPI’s Social Responsibility Committee and implemented social work in each country where the association has a presence; she was a member of INTA’s Pro Bono Committee for four years.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira serves on Montaury Pimenta’s Executive Committee and also leads the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Moreover, she is member of the Women’s Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, has been nominated among the most influential women in intellectual Property by World IP Review 2020 and participates in various IP women events, such as MIP’s International Women’s Leadership Forum.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira has been repeatedly recognised as a leading trademark practitioner in Brazil and internationally, including by the most renowned international guides such us WTR 1000, The Legal 500, Expert Guides, Leaders League and IP Stars.
