Joana de Mattos Siqueira
Joana de Mattos Siqueira has been a partner at Montaury Pimenta, Machado & Vieira de Mello since 2012. She has over 20 years’ experience in IP law and has been leading the firm’s foreign department, focusing on trademark law, for the past 10 years.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira’s clients range from fast-growing, emerging companies to established brands in a variety of industries. She provides comprehensive trademark counselling in Brazil, assisting clients with building and defending their trademark portfolios. Her practice includes:
- domestic trademark clearance;
- registration and opposition proceedings;
- reporting and filing responses to trademark office actions;
- recording of corporate changes, such as change of names and assignments;
- trademark strategy; and
- trademark portfolio management.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira is an active member of IP associations across Latin America, North America and Europe. She is the current president of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property’s (ASIPI) Trademark Committee and a member of INTA’s Famous and Well-Known Marks Committee.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira also has extensive experience in pro bono work and social responsibility issues. She was vice chair of ASIPI’s Social Responsibility Committee for eight years, undertaking social work initiatives in different countries, a member of INTA’s Pro Bono Committee for four years and has been invited to be a member of the Brands for a Better Society INTA Committee for the 2020-2021 term.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira serves on Montaury Pimenta’s Executive Committee and is also leading the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion´s Committee. She is a member of the Women´s Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and participates in various IP women-specific events such as MIP’s International Women’s Leadership Forum.
Ms de Mattos Siqueira has been repeatedly recognised as a leading trademark practitioner in Brazil and internationally, including by WTR 1000 2019, Leaders League 2019 and IP Stars 2019.
