Jake Marshall is head of the IP transactions team at Carpmaels & Ransford LLP. Qualified as a solicitor since 2002, he specialises in transactional and advisory matters involving intellectual property and technology, and advises clients across a variety of sectors including life sciences, software/technology, media and entertainment, and retail. His work, with companies such as Penguin Random House, Autoglass/Carglass, Bear Grylls and McArthurGlen, includes:
- drafting and negotiating trademark licences and co-existence/settlement agreements, as well as a wide range of commercial agreements where branding issues are key;
- advising on the IP aspects of corporate transactions; and
- managing large multi-jurisdictional projects to assign trademark rights and record changes in ownership of registered rights at the relevant IP offices.
In addition to his time in private practice, Mr Marshall has worked in-house at companies such as Gilead, GlaxoSmithKline, iris, National Air Traffic Services and John Lewis, giving him a strong understanding of the challenges faced by in-house counsel.
