Ivana Šarlija is managing director of Zivko Mijatovic & Partners (ZMP) in Croatia. She obtained an LLM from the University of Zagreb, Croatia and passed the patent and trademark attorney exam before the Croatia State IP Office. She joined ZMP in 2012 after working as a trademark examiner at the State IP Office; she became ZMP’s managing director in 2015.
Ms Šarlija has over 10 years’ experience in trademark prosecution and anti-counterfeiting matters. She specialises in Croatian trademark prosecution matters. She has extensive experience providing legal assistance to domestic and international clients on all matters relating to IP rights and unfair competition, as well as dispute resolution. She manages domestic clients’ IP portfolios with a proactive and strategic approach to their rights’ protection and enforcement.
Ms Šarlija is also the operational lead for the firm’s multi-jurisdictional anti-counterfeiting strategy and is the point of contact for many of the firm’s largest clients in these matters, providing them with immediate service that draws on her extensive knowledge of customs legislation in the region’s jurisdictions. In addition, Ms Šarlija oversees enforcement matters in Croatia, providing expert advice and legal assistance in counterfeiting matters. She has also participated in customs training sessions as a lecturer in various countries of the region.
High professional standards, flexibility, attention to clients’ needs and dedication are Ms Šarlija’s strong points. She has full professional proficiency in English and a working knowledge of French. Ms Šarlija is a member of INTA (Anti-counterfeiting Committee), the Pharmaceutical Trademarks Group and the IP Rights Taskforce of the American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia.
