Gökçe İzgi is a partner specialising in intellectual property. She advises IP owners on the establishment, management, commercialisation and protection of their assets in Turkey. She has particular experience in supporting clients in regulated industries and often provides detailed and tailored advice on the intersection between IP rights, regulatory obligations and commercial strategy, taking into account each client’s broader commercial strategy and the requirements of regulators.
She focuses on trademark and patent issues, and strategically manages IP portfolios in Turkey for many high-profile companies. She also often advises on cross-border legal issues, including international patent applications, licences and litigation.
Ms İzgi is especially experienced in advising on the launch and advertising of highly regulated products, notably in the pharmaceuticals, medical devices, life sciences, biotechnology, alcohol and tobacco sectors. Companies in these industries require detailed advice on navigating licensing and marketing authorisation processes, as well as local product and import regulations.
Ms İzgi has represented many international IP owners in litigating patent, design and unfair competition disputes in Turkey. She has also successfully resolved disputes relating to trademarks, trade dress, unfair competition, false advertising, lookalike products, ambush marketing, improper use of confidential data and deceptive trade practices.
She is experienced in helping clients tackle counterfeits and grey goods by developing customised, multi-faceted programmes using a combination of investigations, raids, seizures, customs processes, negotiations and court actions to meet each client’s particular goals.
Ms İzgi is a member of the Unreal Campaign Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA), as well as a board member of the Turkey chapter of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI). She frequently provides advice on IP issues to start-ups companies in Turkey on a pro bono basis.
