Elliot Papageorgiou

Partner at Clyde & Co

Elliot Papageorgiou advises international brand owners on contentious and non-contentious IP issues, with a particular focus on developing and implementing strategies for business-centric IP portfolio development, enforcement, and strategic and cross-border IP enforcement and litigation in China and the Asia Pacific region. He has managed a range of strategic trademark, patent and copyright matters for regional and multinational clients. His recent client briefs include developing China IP entry strategies for International IP Venture Funds, innovative ways of using trademarks for protecting the China supply chain for a global engineering and manufacturing conglomerate, defending (both at court and against administrative enforcement actions) a number of Europe’s ‘hidden champions’ against attacks from bad-faith trademark registrants, as well as enforcing trademarks and acting against ‘look-alikes’ for some of Europe’s best-known fast-moving consumer goods, luxury product and jewellery brands.

Mr Papageorgiou routinely wins recognition for his service to clients in the China IP field, including being:

  • recommended in the Legal 500’s China IP category;
  • ranked in the WTR 1000 (2011-2020);
  • ranked as a leader in his field by Chambers Global (2013, 2015-2019) and Chambers Asia-Pacific (2012-2019);
  • ranked as a leader by World IP Review (2016);
  • ranked in the IAM Patent Litigation 250 in 2011 and 2012, as well as the IAM Patent 1000 (2012-2020);
  • ranked as one of the world’s leading IP strategists by IAM Strategy 300 (2012-2020);
  • named one of Managing Intellectual Property’s IP Stars (2014-2017, 2019); and
  • ranked in Who’s Who Legal: Patents (2014-2019) and Who’s Who Legal: Trademarks (2012-13, 2015-2019).
