Elisa Santucci graduated from law school in Rio de Janeiro in 1988 and earned an LLM from Tulane University, New Orleans in 1990.
Throughout her 25 years’ experience she has worked closely with individuals, national and international companies, and trademark owners with medium and large portfolios.
Ms Santucci is experienced in administering trademark prosecution: from filing to renewal, and contentious procedures such as oppositions and administrative cancellations before the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) and Brazilian courts. In court, she is experienced in trademark law and patent litigation, among other matters.
Ms Santucci is well-versed in drafting franchise agreements. She also has expertise in drafting, revising and recording trademark licensing, know-how and technical assistance agreements. She also deals with software protection before the BPTO and copyright protection before the National Library, the National School of Fine Arts and the National School of Music.
In 2009 Ms Santucci drafted, upon request of the Brazilian Institute of Cachaça, the Regulation for the use of Cachaça as a Geographical Indication (GI). Ms Santucci also represented the Consejo Regulador del Tequila A C in Brazil, aiming at protecting Tequila as a GI in Brazil.
Ms Santucci is also an IP expert witness for the Rio de Janeiro state courts and a specialist in panels covering domain names disputes.
After having worked for three major IP firms in Rio from 1993 to 2008, she accepted a position as the IP manager for Latin America at Syngenta in Sao Paulo.
Ms Santucci started her own IP boutique in September 2009 which has grown steadily.
