As an established and experienced trademark attorney, Colleen Flynn Goss oversees the trademark portfolios of domestic and international clients, from small entrepreneurs to multinational corporations. She brings a depth of knowledge to her counselling on all aspects of trademark portfolio management, including development, management and worldwide protection of clients’ intellectual property. Ms Goss’s corporate law background enhances her ability to take a pragmatic approach to assisting clients in achieving their business objectives vis-à-vis their brands.
Ms Goss’s practice encompasses advising clients on the selection, clearance and adoption of new trademarks, prosecution of applications, registration, maintenance and enforcement of trademarks and domain names, as well as providing counsel on transactional matters and disputes related to trade secrets, false advertising and trademarks. She works with clients to understand their risk tolerance and develop practical approaches for maintaining and enforcing their IP assets on both a domestic and worldwide level. Ms Goss particularly enjoys working with start-ups and entrepreneurs in establishing their brands and realising their goals. She strives to provide practical, cost-effective and sound advice that enables them to make effective use of their trademarks.
The keystone of Ms Goss’s practice is managing the worldwide trademark assets of a major healthcare provider and a multinational tyre manufacturer. Her other varied clients include universities, consumer product and industrial manufacturing companies, and medical device manufacturers. She has also gained extensive international exposure through representation of trademark applicants based outside the United States.
Ms Goss is an actively involved member of INTA (vice-chair Publications Committee) and a member of the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association. She received her BA in economics from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and her JD from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. Before joining Fay Sharpe in 1995, she spent five years in private practice with a large Cleveland law firm concentrating on securities law and mergers and acquisitions, and 10 years as in-house counsel for Cleveland-based, publicly traded corporations.
