Ronald van Tuijl's Profile

Ronald van Tuijl has over 25 years of in-house experience in the IP field and currently heads up the trademark and designs team at JTI, based in Geneva, Tokyo and Warsaw, consisting of brand legal counsel and specialists handling JTI’s global trademark and design portfolio.

Ronald is an active member of INTA, served for many years on the INTA board of directors and was the 2016 INTA president. He most recently was a member of the In-house Practice of the Future think tank. He is a frequent speaker on various topics, including brand restrictions and IP portfolio management.

Before moving to Switzerland from his native country the Netherlands, Ronald was senior IP counsel at Philips in the Netherlands handling various global trademark, design and domain name portfolios for the lighting, medical and personal care divisions and the licensing and brand enforcement of the Philips brand in various regions.

Prior to his role at Philips, Ronald worked at Unilever in Rotterdam and London across many foods and personal care product portfolios for eight years. 

Further work experience includes an in-house role in the telecommunications and ISP sector.  

Ronald received his law degree from Leiden University in the Netherlands following which he joined the intellectual property department of KPN, the biggest telecommunications company in the Netherlands. This is also where he completed his formal training to become a Benelux trademark and design attorney.
