John Wheeler's Profile

John Wheeler is a UK qualified solicitor and was admitted to the roll of solicitors of England and Wales in 2002. Mr Wheeler joined Mondelēz International through the former Cadbury Schweppes plc in 2003, after training and working at Clifford Chance LLP in London. He became senior counsel in 2006 and was based at the company’s European headquarters in Zurich from 2011 to 2014.

Mr Wheeler has extensive experience managing trademark portfolios across Asia, the Middle East and Africa, as well as Europe, conducting multi-jurisdictional search and clearance projects, prosecuting applications worldwide and managing infringement and unfair competition actions before the courts. A substantial portion of Mr Wheeler’s work involves managing contentious and non-contentious trademark matters in the Asia-Pacific region. He is particularly experienced in handling trademark matters in China, addressing some of the many IP issues that companies face in the country by designing tailored brand management and enforcement strategies that help Mondelēz International to tackle persistent infringers and counterfeiters.

Mondelēz International’s famous brands include Oreo, Cadbury, Trident, Milka, Belvita, Tang, Halls and Toblerone.  

Mr Wheeler has been a member of INTA’s Non-traditional and Well-Known Trademarks Committees and has served on the European Brands Association Trademark Committee. He is currently an active member of INTA’s In-house Practitioner's Committee.
