Ms Buttars currently works at Netflix. Netflix is the world’s leading streaming entertainment service with more than 208 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages.  

Ms Buttars joined Netflix in 2017, where she leads the company’s global trademark practice for its house and title brands, including clearance, registration, brand protection and enforcement matters. She also oversees its trademark budget, global counsel and vendor relationships. She works cross-functionally with other legal stakeholders and business teams within the company on a variety of IP matters – including consumer products, trademark-related global public policy, domains and localisation of Netflix’s content.

Before joining Netflix, Ms Buttars worked at Twitter where she advised the marketing, sales, product, corporate development and the brand strategy teams on intellectual property and brand issues in connection with marketing and advertising, user content permissions and third-party trademark and brand issues. She also worked cross-functionally on a variety of matters, including policy and operations. During her time at Twitter, she was responsible for developing and implementing the company’s external permissions and licensing strategy. Ms Buttars was also a legal partner on the company’s brand guidelines and oversaw its trademark licensing programme and third-party permissions and policies, including automating this process.

Before joining Twitter, Ms Buttars held positions at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Wm Wrigley Jr Company, Playboy and Dentons.
