One of the biggest and most well-known IP agencies in the Benelux, De Clercq & Partners (DC&P) is lauded by its patrons for its efficiency and thorough knowledge of trademark law: “We wanted a sparring partner for more strategic discussions, and we definitely found a good partner in DC&P.” In addition to providing the full menu of prosecution services, it also goes beyond the typical remit of trademark agencies and skilfully tackles transactional mandates. “Clients are in excellent hands with Joost Muylle, a highly experienced attorney who provides exceptional service at a reasonable price.” As head of the trademark department, Muylle “is a natural authority, has an excellent grasp of the legal and economic issues involved, and is all around a pleasure to work with”. He works closely with Thomas Baudewijn, whose “solution-oriented nature calms clients’ minds”. “Thomas embodies DC&P as a whole. He is reliable, precise and pragmatic, while also being friendly and easy to communicate with.”
Thomas Baudewijn holds a master's in law from the University of Ghent, Belgium, and an LLM in IP rights from the Catholic University of Leuven, also in Belgium.
Mr Baudewijn started his career as a legal counsel and trademark and design attorney, and worked in private practice where he gained extensive and practical training in various aspects of intellectual property with an emphasis on trademark and design law, copyright, software, databases and domain names, as well as commercial contracts. He qualified as a European trademark and design attorney in 2013 and gained further experience in aspects of information, communication and technology (ICT) law.
Furthermore, Mr Baudewijn has extensive experience in trademark and design prosecution, including conducting formal proceedings before the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property, the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the UK Intellectual Property Office. He handles opposition matters, infringement and enforcement cases with equal force. He provides clients with strategic and hands-on advice on the protection, maintenance and management of both small and large trademark and design portfolios. Moreover, he assists with negotiations and drafting of agreements relating to intellectual property and ICT.
Mr Baudewijn joined De Clercq & Partners as a legal counsel and European trademark and design attorney in April 2016. In 2022, he was added to the list of recommended individuals by World Trademark Review.
