The WTR 1000 focuses exclusively on trademark practice and has firmly established itself as the definitive 'go-to' resource for those seeking world-class legal trademark expertise
Bronze - Individuals: enforcement and litigation
Already a powerful force in the UK trademark prosecution sphere, Venner Shipley’s practice was boosted recently through its merger with Brookes IP. Thanks to this expansion of personnel and clients, plus the growth of its Munich offering, the firm has enjoyed a successful year despite recent challenges. Newly on board from Brookes IP are Jane Martin and Clare Turnbull. Martin has been in the game for 35 years, conducting meticulous trademark searches for patrons such as coconut supplier First Grade International; while new head of trademarks Turnbull “provides solid advice not just on the process of international trademark prosecution, but also on how to overcome country-specific obstacles”. The pair join a team which includes James Tumbridge, David Birchall, Gloria Parmesan and Yoann Rousseau. Tumbridge heads the litigation and legal division and recently represented MTL Financial in an infringement dispute against JLG Group. Birchall is a dual-qualified trademark attorney and solicitor who previously was an in-house adviser for well-known sports brands and earns warm plaudits: “David has a refreshing, no-nonsense attitude and works hard to protect clients’ trademarks. He not only has extensive trademark experience, but also a very commercial and pragmatic approach to his work.” The “prompt, professional, clear and thorough” Parmesan has been occupied of late with the management of insurance company Aviva’s portfolio; while Rousseau – who “is serious, knowledgeable, responds to emails promptly and gives commercial and practical advice” – has been managing the portfolio of financial services company TMG Ltd.
