Kelly Saliger's Profile

Kelly Saliger is a dual-qualified solicitor and chartered trademark attorney, sitting as treasurer and second vice president on the Chartered Institute of Trademark Attorneys’ (CITMA) Council and Executive Committee, among others. Ms Saliger has been working on the profession’s response to Brexit alongside other initiatives, including the recent acquisition of ‘chartered’ status. Ms Saliger has a wealth of experience advising brand owners on all matters relating to trademark and design portfolios and is known for her commercial and solutions-driven approach.

Ms Saliger has over 10 years’ experience in trademark law and specialises in international litigation, enforcement and strategy, particularly in the field of technology and media. She has led cases before the General Court on complex issues including statutory acquiescence and managed multi-territorial litigation across Europe. Her career highlights include securing one of the earliest decisions on pan-European relief before the Spanish EU trademark court and a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights on the issue of delay in member state trademark proceedings. 

She is one of the authors involved in the UK Trade Marks Handbook (Sweet & Maxwell). She also frequently speaks on trademark-related topics, including “Non-traditional trademarks, every one’s a fruit & nut case” at the 2017 CITMA Spring Conference, “Honest Concurrent Use” at the 2018 CITMA Autumn Conference and “European Trademark Issues” at the 2019 CITMA Spring Conference (the latter as panel host).

  • Acting for a major telecoms company in relation to several trademark infringement and unfair competition cases pursuing the unauthorised use of their brand both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
  • Acting for a major telecoms company in respect of complaints to the European Commission and Court of Human Rights.
  • Acting for British Family Perfumers in respect of their trademark portfolio and commercial agreements.
  • Advising a well-known UK restaurant and private members group on trademark licences and agreements including selective distribution agreements.
  • Advising large commercial clients on IP due diligence agreements and acquisition of sizeable trademark portfolios.
