Huib Berendschot is a lawyer and partner with AKD Benelux Lawyers, which he joined in 2004. Prior to working at AKD, he worked for close to 11 years for Unilever, both in the Netherlands and in the United Kingdom. He also worked for a number of years at Novagraaf, where he was a member of the management team.
Mr Berendschot’s focus is on trademarks, designs and copyright. His enforcement experience is particularly thorough in the areas of counterfeit goods and parallel traded goods. His clients include companies in food and beverage (foodstuffs), luxury goods such as watches and leather goods, clothing, electronic appliances, and pharmaceutical and medical products.
Mr Berendschot has a great deal of experience in the legal aspects of brand development, acquisition of rights and international enforcement thereof. He is also well versed in providing support to clients in relation to contractual issues in the field of intellectual property, including the drafting of IP-related agreements. In addition, he also has experience in the IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
Mr regularly lectures on the subject of trademark law and speaks at seminars both nationally and internationally. In particular, he works as a lecturer and examiner for the Benelux Foundation for Professional Education for Benelux Trademark and Design Attorneys, the Netherlands Institute of Patent Attorneys and the Foundation for Professional Education of in-house Counsels. He is also an active member of the INTA and the AIPPI – the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.
