Gold - Individuals: enforcement and litigation

Baker McKenzie is a mighty force on the global trademark scene, managing over 35,000 trademarks for around 5,000 individual clients. Its Russian outpost is a key component in its worldwide offering and also provides a first-class domestic service, as the stats bear out: as an example, it has secured well-known status for 35 of the 224 trademarks recognised as such in Russia. Many of its attorneys have served stints at Rospatent, granting them invaluable insight into its inner workings; while the judicious integration of cutting-edge technologies – such as customs enforcement tool MAPS – yields generous time and cost efficiencies. Its cosmopolitan clientele includes leading Russian search engine Yandex, the GSK group and Korean food producer Paldo. Handling prosecution for the latter – and obtaining well-known status on its behalf – are Denis Khabarov, Pavel Gorokhov, Eugene Arievich and Galina Grishanova. Khabarov heads the IP practice across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and is a safe pair of hands for even the most complex cross-border trademark disputes. An authority on parallel imports, he has helped to shape the relevant Russian and Eurasian regimes for the past 10 years. Gorokhov is a prolific prosecutor known for his staggering success rate in invalidity actions. Elder statesman Arievich is perhaps the best-known IP practitioner in Russia – he previously fronted the firm’s IP practice across the whole of the CIS for 22 years and continues to share his worldly wisdom with companies around the globe. Grishanova has likewise cultivated a lofty profile during her 20-plus years in the field; her previous experience as an examiner at Rospatent informs her work to this day. Also on board are Darya Ermolina and Marianna Grigorova. Ermolina is a creative and passionate litigator who knows the pharmaceutical and media sectors inside out. Trademark and domain name all-rounder Grigorova receives glowing feedback from the market: “Marianna is responsive, clear in her communications and provides a cost-effective service. She can identify clients’ priorities based on their business needs and present pragmatic proposals, and shows determination when facing difficulties from the other side.” Heading up the transactional and contractual IP sub-division at the Moscow office, Margarita Divina has a flair for the fine print of IP-related transactions, licensing deals and franchising arrangements. Contractual and licensing matters and brand strategy are meat and drink to Yuri Yahin, who is another familiar face at Rospatent.
