In February 2020 Russia signed the Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin, alongside its follow EAEU member states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan). The signing of this agreement was long awaited and constitutes a significant step towards the establishment of a unified IP system for the EAEU, which will allow international businesses to obtain trademark protection across all member states in one fell swoop. This system will be more efficient and cost effective than the current regime and filings will be universally understood, as all will be translated into Russian.
