The Romanian trademark regime was revamped in 2020, introducing innovations such as the ability to file invalidity and revocation actions before the Romanian Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) and enhanced online prosecution services. The reforms have created new opportunities for the country’s IP firms and trademark activity has continued apace despite the economic pressures of the last two years. The buzzing market continues to evolve, with major spin-offs continuing to break away from leading practices. International law firms have traditionally struggled to make their mark in the jurisdiction, and as such the Romania rankings are almost entirely devoid of the global names that feature prominently elsewhere in the guide.
