Indonesia has fully recovered from the negative impact of covid-19: for many firms, local filing numbers are now higher compared the pre-pandemic levels and enforcement initiatives are in full swing. The offices operate in hybrid mode, and the practitioners continue to use the highly praised e-filing system, launched in 2019 by the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP). Meanwhile, in September 2022, several prominent e-commerce platforms and brand owners joined forces to tackle the issue of counterfeit goods across Southeast Asia. Participants include AliExpress, WeChat, TikTok, Lazada, BMW and Puma. The consortium plans on publishing an online directory of methods of combatting IP infringement, as well as raising awareness of IP protection among the general public.
