The Estonian market is flourishing as the new regime introduced by the 2019 transposition of the EU Trademark Directive beds down. The reforms have already had a positive impact, with practitioners reporting an uptick in trademark applications and heightened brand awareness more generally. As a key European innovation hub, Estonia has always strived to provide a conducive environment for rights holders; most recently, the Estonian Patent Office – with support from the EUIPO’s European Cooperation Project – has enhanced its service with the launch of a new online portal for trademark applications. The streamlined, customer-friendly tool facilitates the filing of fast-track applications and should thus increase efficiency and help to modernise IP practices in the country.
