Ecuador’s recent election, which saw Guillermo Lasso rise to power as the 47th president, has triggered a wave of optimism and renewed international interest in investing in the country. Local practitioners are optimistic that the government – more market oriented than its predecessors – will promote business and reform the IP regime to make it more user friendly. The misappropriation of internationally renowned trademarks remains a concern; and it is hoped that issues such as this will be addressed once the new government had bedded in.
