Croatia is an increasingly attractive destination for foreign brand owners, thanks to a modern IP regime harmonised with EU standards and ranks of sophisticated practitioners. In response to high levels of fakes flooding Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), local law firms have incorporated robust anti-counterfeiting packages into their offerings and are working hard to educate local businesses on the importance of IP as a commercial asset. Digitalisation is another ongoing narrative – although the Croatian Intellectual Property Office has been rather slower on the uptake in this regard and a generational divide in the judiciary has become increasingly evident.
