The latest statistics for 2012 show that, thanks to increased information campaigns launched by the Austrian customs authorities, the number of incidents where counterfeit goods were seized and ultimately kept in detention – after a historical peak of 3,201 in 2011 – dropped to 2,344 in 2012. These mainly concerned items such as apparel, watches, shoes, mobile phones and pharmaceuticals seized in the booming pre-Christmas season.
