The value of goods seized and the number of seizures by the Swiss customs authorities have risen continuously in the last couple of years. The total value of goods seized by Swiss customs authorities in 2011 was Sfr8.4 million – as opposed to Sfr7.2 million in 2010 and Sfr4.7 million in 2009. In addition, the number of interventions by the customs authorities has nearly doubled since 2009; in 2011 Customs made 3,180 seizures, as opposed to 1,622 seizures in 2009.
