On joining the World Trade Organisation in 1995, Costa Rica adopted several international obligations regarding IP matters. In particular, the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of IP Rights (TRIPs) set forth minimum standards of protection, enforcement and dispute settlement of IP rights, bringing the country’s domestic procedures and remedies into line with international standards.
