The primary laws used to facilitate anti-counterfeiting measures in New Zealand are the civil and criminal provisions of the Trademarks Act 2002 and the Copyright Act 1994. Any misleading and deceptive use of a mark or a copyright work may also contravene provisions of the Fair Trading Act 1986, or amount to passing off.
