Partner at BomhardIP
Verena von Bomhard has been involved with EU trademarks from the start, having founded her former firm’s office in Alicante in 1996. Since then, she has been focusing on a pan-European view of trademark and design law. She therefore has almost unrivalled experience in all matters relating to the prosecution and enforcement of EU trademarks and designs, handling proceedings before the General Court and the European Court of Justice, multi-jurisdictional trademark clearance and portfolio management, as well as advising on complex IP conflicts in the European Union, effective dispute settlement strategies and the protection and enforcement of non-traditional marks.
Ms von Bomhard holds a doctorate in law from the University of Munich, has edited, authored and co-authored numerous books and articles about EU trademarks and designs, and is a frequent speaker on these topics. She teaches EU trademark law on the IP master’s programmes of the Max Planck Institute and the University of Alicante, the Magister Lucentinus.
An active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), Ms von Bomhard has been on its Board of Directors, co-chaired an INTA Annual Meeting and been chair of the Programmes Committee and the EU Intellectual Property Office Subcommittee, and the Trademark Office Practices Committee. During the 2018-2019 term she will be part of the INTA Trademark Reporter Team. She received the 2014 Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law from INTA. She is also a member of the Committee of Experts for Trademark and Competition Law of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.
As well as her native German, Ms von Bomhard is fluent in English and Spanish and can read French and Italian.
