Steve Abreu, partner at Sunstein Kann Murphy & Timbers LLP, takes a pragmatic approach to trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement and has over a decade of hands-on experience practising in front of the US Patent and Trademark Office. Mr Abreu helps his clients to manage their domestic and foreign trademark portfolios and has experience in trademark policing and enforcement actions, including opposition and cancellation practice, licensing and internet and domain name issues.
Mr Abreu’s clients are varied and include renowned institutions of higher learning, apparel companies, medical device manufacturers and companies focused on the provision of computer software and data visualisation services. He also represents well-known manufacturers of biotechnology products. Mr Abreu specialises in the clearance and prosecution of pharmaceutical trademarks and offers insight from a trademark law perspective into regulatory review.
Mr Abreu’s strategic outlook on trademark and copyright protection has assisted both large and small businesses in the United States and abroad. Mr Abreu strives to accomplish successful and efficient registration of Madrid-based US trademark applications owned by trademark applicants from outside the United States.
Mr Abreu graduated in 2004 from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law with honours and was first recognised in the WTR 1000 2014. Mr Abreu was named to the Rising Stars list in the practice area of intellectual property from 2010 to 2017 in Massachusetts, a list limited to 2.5% of the outstanding emerging lawyers in the state who are aged 40 and under or have been practising for 10 years or less.
Mr Abreu has been active at the committee level with the International Trademark Association and contributes to the WTR Daily.
