Partner at SCAN Avocats
Sandra Cabanne began her legal career in 2002 as a criminal law attorney. In order to enrich her experience in the field of practical business, she joined the legal department of large public French company SNCF (French national railways) as a general in-house attorney, before being promoted to head of the IP department of the SNCF Voyages division.
In 2009 Ms Cabanne decided to move back to a law firm as an IP senior associate and joined Clairmont Avocats in Paris in 2011, where she became partner in March 2013.
Ms Cabanne has now started her own practice and founded SCAN Avocats with her former partner Alexandre Nappey and all their team (associates and paralegal) on October 1 2017. The firm is based in Paris and has branches in Strasbourg and Bordeaux, with further openings to follow.
Ms Cabanne has developed a recognised expertise in litigation and the prosecution of traditional intellectual property (eg, trademarks, designs, copyright and anti-counterfeiting) as well as new technologies, including domain names, software, data privacy and e-reputation.
Contracts (IP transfer, licensing and coexistence agreements), unfair competition law, distribution and comparative advertising are also key features of her practice.
Ms Cabanne counsels, assists and represents large and medium-sized domestic and foreign clients in a broad range of industries – including transportation, insurance and pension, agro-food, luxury and jewellery – before the EU Intellectual Property Office, national trademark offices, and civil and criminal courts.
Ms Cabanne also runs IP training sessions with training institutes and universities, and is a coach on the National Industrial Property Institute Master Class programme.
Ms Cabanne has been recognised by the Legal 500 since 2013 and in the WTR 1000 since 2016. In 2016 the WTR 1000 said the following: “Sandra makes her WTR 1000 debut this year: her advice is accurate and efficient and she’s very responsive – she’s someone for emergencies.” Further, in 2017 it said that “Sandra Cabanne operates flawlessly on both sides of the contentious/non-contentious divide and brings valuable design and unfair competition law knowledge to the table”.
