Sabin Tigu

Partner at Ploum

Sabin Tigu is a partner at Ploum specialising in IP and unfair competition law. He primarily concentrates on trademarks, design rights, copyright and domain names. He also conducts project-driven IP litigation and has extensive experience in relation to large-scale and long-term projects for international clients, managing and assisting in parallel trade and anti-counterfeiting problems such as custom border detentions. He is in particular active for clients in the automotive, technology, food and beverage, outdoor and luxury goods industries.

Based in Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port, Mr Tigu assists his clients with complex trademark matters related to unauthorised parallel trade issues throughout the continent. In close cooperation with local counsel in countries all over Europe, as well as other jurisdictions, he manages many trademark and design portfolios.

In close cooperation with IP partner Willem Leppink and his team, he has managed projects ranging from parallel trade to counterfeit products, as well as relating to recovering domain names and stopping phishing schemes.

Mr Tigu studied at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. After completing his studies, he joined Ploum in 2012.

Mr Tigu is a member of the editorial board of a leading Dutch journal on trademarks and designs. He is also a member of the MARQUES IP Emerging Issues Team. Before becoming a lawyer, he was an international professional tennis player. For the past years, he has been the winner of the International Trademark Association’s tennis tournament. From his client Harley-Davidson he received the award for Rising Star in Brand Protection at the company’s global counsel meeting in Seattle.
