European and Benelux Trademark and Design Attorney at VO Patents & Trademarks
After a foundation course in technical business administration, Maaike Witteman studied law at Leiden University, specialising in IP law. During her LLB, she also did a minor in business studies.
From the firm’s Eindhoven office, Ms Witteman advises various (technical) start-ups, medium and large-size companies. She has longstanding experience in actively representing her clients before the Benelux Office of Intellectual Property, as well as before the EU Intellectual Property Office. Since she started as a trademark attorney in 2007, Ms Witteman has specialised in trademark and design searches of all kinds – among other subject areas. In this respect, she is also active as a trainer for the Forum Institute in courses for professional trademark searches. Ms Witteman is also a tutor in design right courses for trainee patent attorneys. Her involvement in technical matters helps her form a link between patents and trademarks and designs.
Her experience as an in-house counsel for Sara Lee has sharpened her focus on the practical interests of her clients, helping shape her pro-active approach. This, combined with her deep knowledge of the law, means that she fits in with all types of client, from start-ups to multinationals.
