Helen Tang’s practice focuses on regional trademark prosecution, strategic planning and the management of international trademark portfolios. She provides advice on protection and enforcement of IP rights, trademark oppositions and revocations, as well as trademark audits, licensing and acquisitions.
Ms Tang has represented multinational and Asia-based clients in a wide range of industries, including food and beverage, fashion, cosmetics, entertainment, personal care products, sports and leisure, and pharmaceuticals.
Ms Tang previously served as a senior solicitor with the IP department of the Hong Kong government and was closely involved in the drafting and passage of the current Hong Kong Trademarks Ordinance.
She graduated from the University of Melbourne obtaining an LLB and a B Comm, and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong, England and Wales and Victoria, Australia.
Ms Tang was the president of the Hong Kong Institute of Trademark Practitioners from 2011 to 2013.
She is a committee member of the Trademarks Committee of the Asia Patent Attorneys Association (Hong Kong Group) 2018-2020.
Ms Tang speaks fluent English and Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and Shanghainese).
Ms Tang has received the following honours:
- Asialaw Leading Lawyers 2007 (Intellectual Property);
- Chambers Asia – Asia’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2009;
- Ranked in the WTR 1000 2011;
- Awarded an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property 2014; and
- Received the Silver Band ranking in the WTR 1000 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
