Di (Deland) Wu is a partner at Lung Tin Intellectual Property Agent Ltd, where she also manages the trademark and copyright department. Ms Wu has extensive experience in trademark application, opposition and invalidation proceedings and trademark litigation, as well as in designing and implementing strategic brand programmes. Her particular area of expertise is handling sophisticated administrative and litigation cases, in which she has a proven track record of success. Ms Wu recent litigation cases includes the following:

  • appeals against decisions of the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board in opposition proceedings concerning the REGITER trademark and the KYOCERA trademark, which were both selected by the Beijing High Court as ‘classic cases’ (the latter also featured in China IP Magazine); and
  • an appeal against a decision of the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board in cancellation proceedings for the KANSAI trademark, which was recognised by the China Trademark Association as one of the ‘excellent cases of 2016-2017’.

As one of the firm’s key professionals, Ms Wu has been nominated as a leading individual practitioner in the field of intellectual property in China. She has been recognised by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) for her work with computer fonts and was named an Outstanding Individual by WTR in 2019. In addition, the Supreme People’s Court has named her an Advisory Committee Expert for Instructions and Research on IP Cases. She is a member of the China Trademark Association’s Individual Director Unit and deputy director of the association’s International Exchange Development Committee.

Ms Wu has advised numerous Fortune 500 companies on trademark profile auditing, strategic planning for trademark protection, domain name disputes, unfair competition cases, IP border protection and criminal enforcement.

Ms Wu is frequently invited to speak at international IP events. She has thus presented the topics of “Issues on Trademark Squatting and Judicial Review” (MIP 2013), “Understanding and Application of Prior Trademark Rights in New Trademark Law” (MIP 2014) and “Representative Cases on Unfair Competition in Trademark Squatting” (China Trademark Annual Meeting 2012).
