Senior Legal Counsel at Henry Goh & Co Sdn Bhd
Azlina Khalid is the senior legal counsel at Henry Goh & Co Sdn Bhd and heads the prosecution unit of the trademark department. She provides clients with pre-litigation advice on trademark, copyright and industrial design infringement, passing-off issues and corporate IP due diligence. Her knowledge and skills extend to securing trade description orders for enforcement, consultancy on franchise and licensing agreements and domain name registration and protection.
Ms Khalid read law at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, graduating with honours in 1993. She has specialised in intellectual property since 1996, when she started legal practice at a leading law firm in Malaysia. She joined Henry Goh in 2004 and is a registered trademark, patent and industrial design agent. She regularly represents the firm at international conferences held by the International Trademark Association, the Asian Patent Attorneys Association and the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys. She is an alumna of the Association of Overseas Technical Scholarship.
Ms Khalid has participated in various training programmes, such as the Japan Patent Office’s IP rights training course (1998 and 2008) and the IP valuation and IP business basics course organised by the IP Academy of Singapore (2009).
Ms Khalid has received recognition and accolades from industry peers, having been nominated in Asialaw Leading Lawyers since 2012. She has been listed as one of Malaysia’s recommended individuals for trademarks in the WTR 1000 since 2012. Her latest notable work includes providing counsel and litigation support services to one of the world’s biggest food and drink manufacturers in suing six different defendants for infringement of its registered industrial design. She was also the lead agent handling a recent trademark appeal case at the High Court of Malaya, now considered as good law in Malaysian trademark practice. In addition, Ms Khalid has effectively coordinated numerous legal actions for clients concerning IP infringement. She is editor of the firm’s publications and often speaks at seminars, both locally and internationally.
