Managing Partner at Robin Bridge & John Liu
Anthony Tong is the managing partner at Robin Bridge & John Liu, having joined the firm in 1988.
Mr Tong has a substantial litigation practice in different areas of intellectual property in Hong Kong and China. He also has extensive international litigation experience, and since 2015 has been the lead counsel for a Hong Kong listed company in a pan-European litigation involving more than 50 proceedings in 15 European countries. Mr Tong has overseen and supervised many trademark and patent litigations in the United States, Europe and Australia. In addition, he manages numerous local clients’ worldwide trademark portfolios, as well as overseeing many international clients’ trademark portfolios in Greater China.
Mr Tong was ranked by the 2017 WTR 1000 in the prestigious Gold Tier of the prosecution and strategy category and Silver Tier of the enforcement and litigation category. In 2017, for the fourth year in a row, he was also named as a Trademark Star for Hong Kong by Managing Intellectual Property.
Mr Tong was appointed by the chief executive of the Hong Kong government as deputy chair of the Copyright Tribunal, and successfully completed his six-year term on November 30 2017. The chair and deputy chair of the tribunal must be qualified for appointment as district court judges; the appointment is therefore a recognition of Mr Tong’s IP expertise. Mr Tong is also one of the trainers for the IP Manager Programme, organised by the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department, as well as an honorary legal adviser of the Design Council of Hong Kong for IP issues.
Mr Tong is an associate member of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators and advises clients on all aspects of alternative dispute resolution. He is also a notary public and a China-appointed attesting officer.
