Managing Partner at Robin Bridge & John Liu
Anthony Tong is the managing partner at Robin Bridge & John Liu, having joined the firm in 1988.
Mr Tong has a substantial litigation practice in different areas of intellectual property in Hong Kong and China. He also has extensive international litigation experience, and since 2015 has been the lead counsel for a Hong Kong listed company in a pan-European trademark dispute. This involved more than 60 proceedings in 15 European countries. Mr Tong has overseen and supervised many trademark and patent litigations in the United States, Europe and Australia. He has substantial experience in Chinese enforcement work having successfully conducted high-profile and reported raids by both the Public Security Bureau and the Association of Investment Companies. In addition, Mr Tong manages numerous Chinese and Hong Kong clients’ worldwide trademark portfolios, and oversees many international clients’ trademark portfolios in Greater China.
Mr Tong and his firm were recommended by the 2018 WTR 1000 in both the prosecution and strategy category and Silver Tier of the enforcement and litigation category. In 2018, for the fifth year in a row, Mr Tong was also named as a Trademark Star for Hong Kong by Managing Intellectual Property.
Mr Tong was appointed by the chief executive of the Hong Kong government as deputy chair of the Copyright Tribunal, and successfully completed his six-year term on 30 November 2017. Mr Tong is also one of the trainers for the biannual IP Manager Programme, organised by the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department, as well as an honorary legal adviser of the Design Council of Hong Kong.
Mr Tong is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators and advises clients on all aspects of alternative dispute resolution. He is also a notary public and a China-appointed attesting officer.
