Walder Wyss Ltd

Walder Wyss is one of the most successful Swiss commercial law firms. Our clients include national and international companies, publicly held corporations and family businesses, as well as public law institutions and private persons. Many of our attorneys have specific industry know-how after having worked in large companies. This enables us to quickly understand internal structures and the specific needs of organisations. As a result of close communication with our clients’ teams, we have a deep understanding of business processes. This enables us to provide specific, solution-oriented recommendations and prepare decisions. Thanks to optimised teams and effective internal cooperation, we are able to render services that provide added value for our clients.

Walder Wyss was established in Zurich in 1972 and has grown continuously since then. We have offices in several cities, speak multiple languages and provide services to national and international clients in all language regions in Switzerland. Creativity guides our work. Multi-disciplinary teams and flat management structures enable us to work at the highest professional level. Our legal team comprises approximately 220 experts with outstanding professional qualifications, international experience and excellent knowledge of their fields. The team is augmented by approximately 140 employees in support functions. Walder Wyss’s success is based on more than skills alone. We place great importance on a collegial atmosphere, we are team players and promote talent.

Our firm works across all areas of IP law, from high-stake trademark and patent litigation to large transactions involving IP and IT issues. Our extensive knowledge of clients’ respective economic areas distinguishes us, as does our ability to combine unparalleled expertise in soft IP law – namely, trademark prosecution, litigation, licensing and transactional practice – with technology expertise in patent, copyright and IT litigation, plus contracting and transactional expertise knowledge in all areas of intellectual property, information technology, technology and data protection. Walder Wyss is poised for future growth. More than 200 fee earners make us the second largest law firm in Switzerland. Our goal is to further invest in new technologies, document management and document automation. In 2017 we launched a new knowledge management tool, containing a sophisticated taxonomy, to increase efficiency and maintain the highest quality standards throughout our offices.

Walder Wyss has been shortlisted for the Chambers Europe Awards 2018 as Switzerland Law Firm of the Year. In addition, The Lawyer has shortlisted Walder Wyss as Law Firm of the Year: Switzerland and IFLR 1000 as most innovative law firm of the year in their European Awards 2018. Walder Wyss is proud to be named as Firm of the Year by the MIP IP Stars Awards 2018. In an extensive survey of Switzerland’s top law firms taken by 7,200 attorneys, published in April 2018 by leading business magazine Bilanz/Le Temps, roughly 450 in-house counsels, general counsels of the 500 largest companies in Switzerland and clients of Swiss law firms not only ranked Walder Wyss as number one, but also as the law firm with the broadest footprint in Switzerland with rankings in 22 practice areas, ahead of Bär & Karrer, Homburger and Lenz & Staehelin. Walder Wyss holds a five-star top rating in 17 practice areas. In particular, it was given a top-rating of five stars in IP law as number one of eight top-rated law firms in Switzerland. This strongly underlines the good standing of our IP practice in the market.
