D&N International (DNI) is a Hanoi-based private law firm founded in 1992 and specialising in intellectual property. DNI provides one-stop-shop IP services to satisfy all its clients’ needs, including registration, litigation, enforcement and licensing. The firm’s IP practice covers Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
In 2005, with a view to provide clients with comprehensive legal services in a variety of matters, the firm expanded its business activities to cover a broader range of issues – most notably consultancy and assistance in the fields of franchising, enterprise establishment, technology transfer and domain names. DNI also opened an office in France to act as a European portal.
Areas of practice
DNI has been advising and representing national and foreign clients in all trademark/copyright and patent/industrial designs matters, including trademark clearance; trademark, copyright, patent and industrial design registration; portfolio management; licensing; specialist investigation; litigation; enforcement; and anti-counterfeiting – not only in the countries mentioned above, but also anywhere else in the world where necessary. In addition, the firm has strong expertise in anti-counterfeiting raid campaigns against trademark infringers and in handling patent infringement, as well as working closely with government IP enforcement authorities to effectively protect the trademark and patent rights of our clients.
Furthermore, the firm also provides legal consulting services on several aspects of Vietnamese laws with an emphasis on civil law and business and commercial laws. The services include legal advice on and assistance with registrations, amendments, annual reviews, and in overcoming official actions of the competent authorities in relation to – among other things –franchising, enterprise establishment, technology transfer, domain name registration and enforcement in Vietnam.
DNI is managed by a group of partners and supported by associates with strong expertise and extensive experience in advising and representing national and foreign clients in various fields of law. Together, our five partners and 24 associates and paralegals, who also have extensive IP experience, provide comprehensive solutions to clients, striving for effectiveness, efficiency, lawful compliance, and time and cost savings. The firm’s goal is to gain clients’ trust through clear and transparent communication and a code of conduct that the board of directors and every individual staff member always bear in mind.
Besides, DNI team members have access to an array of training courses from leading experts which help them deepen their knowledge of specific IP issues and improve their time management skills so they can handle their workload within an eight-hour day. Moreover, DNI organises a weekly ‘Happy Hour’ for staff to discuss and share thinking, knowledge and experiences in dealing with clients’ cases or relaxing, singing and watching movies if they want to do so.
With clients including many of the world’s most famous brand owners, DNI is routinely ranked among the leading trademark and patent practices in Vietnam – in fact, several leading magazines have ranked DNI among the first-tier law firms for intellectual property. Similarly, the firm’s partners are consistently ranked by reputable listing organisations as leading individuals in the IP field.
The firm’s attorneys handle the prosecution of hundreds of trademark, patent and industrial design applications every year and numerous oppositions and cancellations of trademarks before the Board of Appeal of the Vietnam National Office of Intellectual Property, as well as landmark litigation and enforcement cases. For example, in 2011 DNI represented Samsung Electronics Co Ltd against Vietnamese cybersquatting companies and individuals; DNI won the case for Samsung – the first domain name lawsuit in Vietnam, as well as a milestone in the history of the Vietnamese judicial system for the enforcement of IP and IT laws. Another example is the first administrative commercial lawsuit relating to a trademark dispute against the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology in 2014, in which DNI represented Malco Products Inc and reached a favourable outcome for the client.
The firm’s law specialists speak fluent English, Russian, French and Vietnamese.
